Home Again and Heavenly Chocolate

We are home again after a whirlwind trip to see my Mom in Terry, Mississippi, where I spent most of my growing-up years.

We had a good time and it was wonderful to see Mama, but oh, it's good to be back home!

My Mother liked the quilt I made for her. Though I don't know where I get the nerve to give her a quilt, when I see the lovely ones she has that her mother and mother-in-law made all those years ago.

Oh well, maybe years from now someone will look at one of the quilts I made and be as impressed with it as I am with these. I hope so.
I guess the thing that hits me the hardest is that I've heard from these grandmothers of mine how hard life was for them at times. When you live through something like they did - the Great Depression and World Wars one AND two - it makes you value what you have and care for it.

This is one of the restored old houses in my hometown.

When I was a teenager I had a friend who lived in this house, but it was in pretty sad shape. Someone has spent a lot of time and money since then bringing it back to something of its former glory.

And how do you like these "wind chimes"? They are in front of the hardware store downtown.
It's so funny to go back and see how everything has changed and yet is still the same somehow. So many memories.
We stopped at the Information Center when we crossed into Mississippi on Monday and picked up a Visitor Guide.
After we got to Mom's, I was looking through it and noticed that in Poplarville it mentioned that there was a specialty candy company where women hand-made chocolates......
Hmmmmm......
How could I let a thing like that pass me by?
So, today on our way home, we decided to find that candy-making place. And believe me, it was NOT easy. First of all, it was not IN Poplarville. Then, when we asked for directions, we couldn't find the place. Finally, I spotted the Poplarville Chamber of Commerce and went inside to ask. Turned out that the nice lady who works there had worked for the candy company, and she told me exactly how to get there and even called ahead to be sure we could visit.
We drove out about ten miles from the town and found Robicheaux's Specialty Candy
Mrs. Robicheaux started making candy when she retired from being a school teacher. She's been at it for 17 years and has six other ladies working for her. Her little business was pristine! We could tell how much she enjoyed her work and running her business. They did not have a retail store there. They only fill orders and ship them from there. And I had my heart set on buying chocolates. Boo!
But, Mrs. Robicheaux gladdened our hearts by giving us both sample bags of her chocolates, and let me tell you - they are GOOD! I think I'll have to order some more. :)

Oh my, it has somehow gotten VERY late (or should I say early?), and I had better get to bed!
Hope you have wonderful adventures, too!
Hugs and kisses,

Hi, just love your blog. The quilt you made for your mother is beautiful. I love the fabric you chose. I am sure she feels so loved and cared for knowing you made this for her. I cherish the old prints that are in older quilts like those that your grandmother made. Enjoyed visiting! blessings, Kathleen
