Something Old, Something New

This sweet little scene belonged to my mother. She gave it to me recently and I have it where I can see it every day. I have no idea what locale it portrays, but I like it. It's small - 2 3/4 inch X 3 1/4 inch.
On the back it says, "Perfect Attendance 1936-1937, Grade V, Love from Elizabeth Lassiter". You can see that someone spilled some ink on it at some point.

Here's another oldie. Our pastor used to say often what's written on this little plaque, "Only one life, 'Twill soon be past, Only what's done For Christ will last." When I saw it in a shop one day, I snapped it right up. He's gone to heaven now, but this is a constant reminder of things he taught us.

So that's two old things and here are some freshy cut and sewn squares that are half-triangles. More on these later.
In some really sad news, I was sewing along happily last night when my sewing machine stopped. Just stopped, and though I worked and worked, I could not get it started again. I took it back to the shop this morning and learned that the motor was gone. They no longer make motors like that. The bracket that holds it to the machine is just distinctly different from that on motors available today. So. Bummer!
The lady at the sewing machine shop said that perhaps it was time to buy a new machine. Now I would not have considered doing that if I had an option, but I had no option at the moment, so I proceeded to look at new sewing machines. And...............
This is the little girl that came home with me. I've been playing with it most of the afternoon. I'm in learning mode. Lots more bells and whistles, and I have to say I like it! I'm working up my nerve to try the free motion quilting with it later. Fingers crossed!
Hope you've had a wonderful day (or for my friends on the other side of the world - that you're having a wonderful day)!
Hugs and kisses,

Your poor old sewing machine gave it all she could. Enjoy your new machine. I love little pictures, it looks like an European or New England town.

Enjoy your new sewing machine. I hope the string quilt was not the reason for your old sewing machine to retire.

I love the first... how true. Great new machine. I have a Janome and love the ease of use and the durability.
