In the Great Outdoors

This evening when the sun was low in the sky, I took the little babies out, two by two, to frolic in the garden.  I took the precaution of clipping a wing on each of them so they couldn't fly out of the garden and into harm' s way.

Not that Ariel would harm a chicken, even a baby one.  Well, she might play with it just a little bit.....

And certainly not Bruno.  "Not me, Ma, honest, I wouldn't touch one!"

They really did have a good time, and now they're safely back in the garage in their little pen where they're safe and warm.  And I'm worn out!  Herding chickens is hard work!!  But aren't they pretty?  I am so amazed at the variety I got in this bunch.  I think they're beautiful.  Mr. Muddling thinks I'm a little on the nutty side about chickens.

And lest you think that all I do is play with chickens around here, I'll show you a little bit of a bag I'm making.  I had this beautiful piece of tapestry in my stash that seemed just the thing.  I've quilted a lining inside and added pockets sized for my cell phone and camera, and another one for odds and ends.  I put a layer of batting behind the tapestry and quilted that, then sewed inside and outside together.  I was doing fine until I tried to add the end pieces.  I don't think any machine wants to sew that many layers.  Still working on it.  I know.  It would have been a better idea to have an actual pattern and a real plan before I started.  But I didn't.  We'll see.  My idea is to have a cross-body bag for Quilt Festival.  It's almost here you know, and I've never been before.  I am really excited and I want to see EVERYTHING!!!

Hope things are working out well for you, whatever it is you're doing!

Hugs and kisses,

Chickens can fly?!! Bruno is such a good dog. Love your bag, it will serve you well at the show which by the way, I wish I were going to. I just never plan for things that far in advance. I'll just have to live it through you :)

Sis,
I love your chick videos!
The bag is lovely; you might
fine tune your pattern. I bet many women in your family would love
them! Not hinting. love, Sue B.

Cute bag. I think over the years we have made our coop more and more safe. I love those little hens. I have a question for you. I find my egg shells cling to fresh eggs so much that it is hard to make boiled eggs. I have tried googling and doing everything everyone says but they still cling and make a huge mess tearing at the outer later of egg when I shell them. It is best when I put the eggs aside in the fridge for a couple weeks before I boil them. I love the eggs we get though. Our hens are happy.

you must be at FESTIVAL!!
one of my boss' quilts is there right now on display.
i bought chickens 3 years ago and we made a pen for them to keep at our co-op garden, but my friend's sister's dog kept getting to them so i had to give them away... anyway, just loved having them. i go and get my eggs once a week from a friend who has over 100 chickens that she keeps in her yard. she lives on 16 acres though...

i used to have a blog called mymotherinlawisatroll and then my boss strongly suggested that i change the name of my blog, so i got a new one, and i've been a bit less enthusiastic about posting...
anyway, i have a new one if you ever feel like popping over to make fun of me for something.
