Looking at You Looking at Me

I let the chicks out this morning to maraud a little in the back yard.  Then I put them back up.  I had some errands to run and did not want to leave them out.  Good thing, because when I looked out my window when I got back - I saw this hawk sitting on the handle of the old wheelbarrow grooming himself.

Here are some closer looks.  When he flew away the chicks went into a panic, so I went out to be sure they were all right.  I found a pile of sparrow feathers - no bones or anything else, just fresh feathers.  I'm sorry about the sparrow, but sure glad it wasn't one of our chickens!

There is a big area not far from us that had been wooded.  It has been cleared off recently, and my guess is that has moved some of these woodland creatures over into our subdivision.  I only hope there's nothing bigger headed our way.  LOL

Hugs and kisses,

I bet the chickens went crazy. Pretty hawk, but I am glad your chickens are protected.

We had a hawk around here that would roost in our trees this summer. I have seen it swoop down and snatch tiny animals like chipmunks. They are beautiful to watch but oh so destructive. I love your fabric squares especially the shade of green. Happy New Year.

Good thing you put them away! When we first moved way out here, I would let my chickens run free........there is such a peace to see chickens in the yard, and I made the mistake of leaving them,if I just went down the road to check the mail. One day, while I was gone, coyotes attacked and I lost several of my chickens. Such a heart break. Becasue I had let the chickens run all over the grounds, their smell invited coyote and bobcats. I lost the chickens and 7 of my cats in one year. Since then, I have my chickens a large penned yard to run in, and all animals get locked in their shelters by night fall. I have also taken ammonia and have sprayed the yard line of all of the grounds. Since we have not lost any more pets. Owls are our biggest bird predator here as well. By the way, thank you so much for your comments on my blog............cafe work is extremely hard and no one really knows how bad it is until they have worked in the same field. Have a wonderful new year! Enjoy your chickens. blessings,Kathleen

WOW! I can't believe you saw a hawk in your yard...poor chicks had the scare of their young lives.
Have you seen the movie "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock?...a hawk goes after the family's very little dog!

Happy New Year
