Totally Finished!

The quilt for my Sweetie's co-worker who retires in August is finished at last.
As I said before, the pattern (Lake Cabin) is from Kim Brackett's book, Scrap-Basket Sensations.  The only real change I made in the pattern was to add more stars in the sashing and to make their direction alternate in each row.  (I love that book, by the way.  Well worth the price, and I WON it!)

I made a disappearing nine patch for the backing with piano key borders.  So he gets two quilts in one.

He is such a good man, and has been such a good work partner for Mr. Muddling for so many years.  I can hardly wait to give it to him!

This is what I'm working on now.  The color choice I received when I asked the intended recipient was "burnt orange".  I think this will grow into a representation of that.  It will be interesting to see!

Out my window, Claude is surveying the chickens who are out running free.

And out in the chicken house, we have a "blonde" setting more eggs.  Mr. Mudding and I are discussing a totally separate area for her and her hatchlings, if there are any.  We don't want any more of those bad things to happen.

Look at that soil.  Dry and pitiful looking, isn't it?  But take a look at those zinnias.  Aren't they gorgeous?  They are one flower that can take the heat and dry better than the rainy.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Hugs and kisses,

Very nice quilt, double whammy!

That next one is going to be so 'hot'. I hope you have a cool day to start it.

I was hoping you got some of the tropical storm rain.

Wow! What a magnificent quilt. I love the bright, beautiful colors of the Lake Cabin quit. Your husband's co-worker will love this quilt.
I've been watching the news and hoped you would get rain in Texas. The ground looks so dry, but your zinnias are lovely. I sure hope you get rain and cooler weather soon.

Great finish!!! The next one coming in Burnt Orange is a superb colorway. I'm all about orange. :> I hope all goes well with this next sitting of eggs. You know, I had one of those "bad things" happen here only it was with one of the female ducks. I sat with her while she died. It was a very depressing way to start my morning that day was. I mention it only because, well, I sort of understand - not the same for you though. Just mentioning. PS: Who is Claude and is he allowed?

Like the way your quilt has turned out. It's a great two for one idea. Both sides look wonderful. A great gift.
The colours for your next quilt are bright and inspiring. Look forward to seeing that one grow, too.

Thats a 'twice as nice' quilt. Aren't the seasons amazing, we are having snow now and come Chrismas it will be zinnia weather.

I love the changes you made, and I love that you did this in a two-color variation. Very pretty! And what a cool idea to have a whole entire quilt for the back! Thanks so much for sharing the pictures.

It's beautiful Elaine -- what a lucky co-worker. And you're amazing -- another whole quilt for the back! Definitely save those chicks from a Sunny event. ;-)
