Seventy-Two

That's how many of these blocks I have sewn together.  Now I have to get the circles appliqued on to them.

As you can see, I chose to machine applique them with a blanket stitch.  I am just not a fan of hand sewing.

Twenty-one is the number of completed blocks that are now appliqued. LOTS more to go.

So, let's talk about cooking on a winter's day.  Today I made a white sauce with finely chopped onion in it, added shredded cheddar cheese and poured it over

leftover ham and peeled, sliced potatoes.

After baking, covered, for around 40 minutes and then uncovered for about an hour, we had some really good lunch.

I had some sweet potatoes.  Mr. Muddling and Miss Ru think they are deadly poison and will not touch them.  My grandmother told me years ago that you can freeze the baked sweet potatoes in their skins and then slice and cook them later. That is what I did. Sauteed them in a little butter with a little sprinkle of sugar. Yummy!

There were freshly baked wheat rolls, too.  I know. Have you gained weight just looking?  Think how I feel!

It's almost dark now.  I've gone outside and locked the chickens into their pen.  They had already gone "to bed" on their perch.  I know I'm silly sometimes, but I do love my chickens. I'm thankful that we have a place where they can live and provide entertainment for me.

I hope you are staying warm (or cool, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere!) and finding lots to make you happy.

Hugs and kisses,

You have done lots of stitching on those blocks, so far..... a little ways to go now. I'm not much for hand sewing anything, love the blanket stitch or even a little zig-zag.
Ugh, that is a weight-gainer to just look at the foodie pics! Ha. We had baked chicken fingers and sweet tater's tonight ;-).

I love sweet potatoes, but DH thinks just like Mr. Muddling and Miss Ru. ha! I will have to remember that tip about freezing them (cooked or raw??) so I can have some when I feel the urge for sweet potatoes. I prefer hand stitching, but I've never tried a blanket stitch. Not sure why ... I think it's a little intimidating (again, not sure why).
