Evolution of a Quilt

I've been seeing Jelly Roll Race quilts for a while now, but never tried one. Then I saw a tutorial on Missouri Star where Jenny Doan told about one made with batiks and black blocks between each strip.

Of course you know I wanted to try it with red blocks instead of black. So I did.  Here's how it looked. All right, but nothing to get too excited about, right?

So I added a couple of borders. Better. But still not there yet.

Then I had the idea of adding that big Dresden plate I made a while back. Oh, yeah!

When I moved that plate to the top left, a scripture came floating up to my mind, Malachi 4:2, especially the first part of the verse.

So I put it on the label and now I know where it is supposed to go.

The colors are so vibrant, these pictures really do not do them justice.

But I am so pleased with the final outcome. Isn't it fun to watch the journey to a completed quilt? I know I had a lot of fun with this one. The couple to whom it will be going have had some struggles, but I believe this will be a reminder to them of how very much our God cares.

I hope you've made that discovery, too! I would not like to be in this troubled would without Jesus!

Have a great weekend!

Hugs and kisses and lots of love,

It may not a popular thing to say, but I LIKE jelly roll race quilts. I really like yours with the border and the dresden flower! The couple will be pleased, I'm sure.

The blocks added to the end of each roll really added a little pop and even a little order ... Really nice touch. But that Dresden plate ... now that was pure genius! What a wonderful addition! I love this ... as do the recipients, I'm sure.

Elaine the quilt is so vibrant and pretty. The couple will feel so blessed to have it! I know what you mean about being pleased with the final outcome. I thought about you these past few weeks as I worked away on a baby quilt I am makng for my niece who is expecting in late October. Her nursery is in black and white and she wanted a "rock and roll" theme. At first I was very skeptical as to how all of this was going to work.........but I just finished the quilt and sent it off to her yesterday. It looks really cute and I think she is going to be thrilled...........I hope. You can see it on my embroidery blog.......but warning...........it is not at all up to code as your beautiful quilts always are!

What an awesome quilt. It is so beautiful and you've done a fabulous job adding extra touches to it. This is a piece of art. I sure agree with you concerning the Lord. We can't do anything without Him.
Great job with your awesome quilt!
