Churn Dash Blocks

For those of you who have asked, here are the instructions I got from Sheila that she got from Sharon:

You have to think of the churn dash as a 9-patch block - then break those components for the size you need for the size block
a 9" finished block - each unit would need to be 3.5" (unfinished)  -  so 3.5" HSTs, the 'bar' sections would be 2" strips stitched together and then sub-cut into 3.5" , and a 3.5" center.
a 12" finished block - each unit would need to be 4.5" (unfinished) - so 4.5" HSTs, the 'bar' sections would be 2.5" strips stitched together and then sub-cut into 4.5", and a 4.5" center.

I used the 4 1/2" units, simply because I have more 2 1/2" strips than any other size.  I also have the GO! die for half square triangles that finishes at a little over 4 1/2", giving me a very nice square after I trim it.  It doesn't take many of those 12 inch blocks to make a good sized quilt.

I hope you try this one and that you share!

I Thought

I really thought that this quilt was going to live here. But, tomorrow it will go to another home.  I KNOW that it is to go to a couple at our church.

As I had it on the frame quilting it, I heard that still, small voice.  And when I took the time to listen - I knew where it should go.

These scrappy quilts have been so much fun to make.  I know there are more in my future.

This is a shot of the backing with Lady, of course, "helping" me.  Hasn't she grown!

Mr. Muddling just asked me what I am going to make next.  He knows me too well!

What are you making next?

Happy Friday!

Hi there.  Hope your weekend is starting off well.  It's a beautiful, sunshiny (HOT) day here in Houston, Texas.  Most of the flowers outside are still happy, especially early in the morning and late in the evening, which is when this picture was taken.  In the middle of the day those of us who are not mad dogs or Englishmen, as the song goes,  tend to stay inside!  (I don't know why those random things pop into my head, but they do.)
This little block is on my design wall.  It also uses the same building elements that are used in the scrappy churn dash blocks.  I like playing around with them.  Sort of like a child with builder toys.

Speaking of churn dash, I had to make another one.  This one is on the quilt frame right now.  I started quilting it last night, but called it quits around 2:30.  I just ran out of steam.  I'm ready to go again though, so soon.

Meanwhile, Lady is ready for whatever we decide to do, but Bruno has lived long enough that he knows when it's a good idea to nap!

Enjoy your creativity today!

Two More Competed

Remember, I told you I was quilting this one the other day.  Well, here it is in all its glory.  I started this one a long time ago - I don't really remember how long.  But, it's done and I like it!  I think a boy would like it, don't you?

There are some sweet Debbie Mum kitty cats on the back.

This one was also completed this week.  This disappearing four patch was pieced by my friend Sandy and quilted by me.

The backing is this red flannel print I was given years ago. It goes together really well.

As I said earlier, I committed to making six quilts for the boys' home.  This is five done!  Glory to God!  There are two more tops pieced by Sandy (what can I say - she is a machine!) that I need to get borders sewn on and backing chosen before I can quilt them, but soon.  And yes, I know that is seven, not six, but that's a good thing, isn't it?

Today was Mr. Muddling's and my anniversary.  Thirty-two glorious years.  We've had trials and struggles just like anyone else, but I can truthfully say - I could not have chosen anyone better to be by my side through them all.  He is the love of my life and I am forever grateful for him.  We have chosen to celebrate quietly at home this year and he grilled some delicious steaks for us.  My kind of celebration!

I do hope you've had a lovely day, full of things you enjoy.

Happy Mothers Day!

You know I like chickens.  A friend thought I might like to use this, so how could I resist?

Hope your day has been totally wonderful!

Another Top Quilted

This picture was taken at 2:40 this morning.  Yes, I did it again.  I finished quilting this one at 4:30 a.m.  The good thing is, I can sleep in to make up for staying up all night!

I cut this quilt out at least three years ago and had sewn some of the blocks together.  I saw it on a blog, sorry no clue which one.  It is extremely simple as long as you keep your "peaks" going in the same direction.  The fact that I did not always do that means I have another one of these started.   There are some fun fabrics in this one that I think a boy might enjoy.  This one will be going to the Boys' Home, too.  That makes FOUR finished!  Yay!

In other news, I was awakened this morning by pounding on our roof.  When I got up to see what was happening, this is the sight that greeted me outside the front door.  Hail!  Lots of it and pounding down like crazy.

There was a good bit of breakage of tender vegetation in the back yard, but nothing that won't grow back.  Except the plums which now litter the ground!  I am really thankful  It could have been so much worse.

Really weird!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  We have more rain forecast, but we do still need it.  Hopefully it won't be too much.

Scrappy Churn Dash

The Scrappy Churn Dash is quilted and bound.  This is the third quilt for the Boys' Home!  I really like how this one turned out.  It just makes me happy.

I used this dark green paisley for the backing, and just for fun added in a panel of fish.  I think some boy will enjoy that.
And a little glimpse of what's going on out in the back yard.  Lots of prettiness there!

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!  We're off to church now.

Hugs and kisses,
