Field Trip!

My friend Sandy and I went to the airport this afternoon to drop off some more quilts for the USO. Robin, in the orange shirt there in the center, met us as usual at the loading dock to receive the quilts, but this time we got a special treat - we were invited to go inside to visit the USO Center!

It was so touching to see where our quilts are actually put to good use and to meet more of the people who help there. They were all so kind and so appreciative of the quilts we have donated to the USO Center.

For me, I am thankful we have found a place that needs and appreciates our quilts. There are so many people all over the world doing good in their little corner. It may not be much on the part of any of us individually, but as I once heard a wise man say, "Do something, lest you do nothing." That's good advice. There is pretty nearly always someone you can help. Look around.

Patriotic Ten Minute Block Quilt

This one just came out of the dryer.(I am thinking about calling it Six Big Framed Circles! LOL)  And as you can see there is dog on one side and chicken on the other. These are all fabrics I bought on sale at Connecting Threads a while back. The backing is some of that light blue print, lower left, an extra wide fabric also on sale at the time from CT.
This was a fun one to make and went together really quickly. I decided white was what it needed for binding.

It didn't crinkle up a whole lot. I used Warm Blend. This one will also go to the local airport USO Lounge.

I walked into the den this morning and there were Bruno and Lady looking oh, so innocent. Lady assured me that she was only keeping Dad's chair warm until he gets home. Bruno said pretty much the same thing about the rug in front of the chair.

It's a rainy day today and I am thankful for it. Believe it or not we are very far behind where we should be in our rainfall and had already had to start watering, so the rain is welcome.

Have a wonderful week!

Absolutely Nothing Finished

I have such a habit of starting something else before I finish the project I should finish. Sometimes I get an idea, and I just have to see if it will work.

The good thing is I am always making bits and pieces of all of them at once. That means that I frequently have several quilts nearing completion, and that is a very good thing.

I had a fair amount of that green fabric left from the backing of this quilt and just did not want to put it back into the stash. I had the idea to use it to make a tube quilt, and I made blocks and put them on the design wall and they were boring. So I made more using that bluey/aqua batik also. I like that better. I'm trying for once to limit my fabrics in this one. We'll see how long that lasts.
Meanwhile I finished this top with big ten minute blocks and the backing is ready. I just need to cut batting and get it loaded and done. So why am I in here writing a blog instead?
Our beautiful weather continues and the ever faithful Bruno abides by me still. I am so thankful for my family and friends, my home, the choices I have, for the beauty around me, and most of all that Jesus loves me.

I hope you've discovered that as well!

First of All

Happy Valentine's Day!
I do hope you've had a really good day and enjoyed at least a little chocolate.

Second of all, I've finished a couple more quilts for the local airport USO lounge. Here they are in all their freshly washed and dried crinkly huggableness.

This one I made mostly with the fabrics my friend Sandy brought to me a couple of weeks ago. And Deb, you might recognize that outer border.  There is no pattern, as such. I just sort of made it up as I went along. You know - muddling!

The backing is this really soft smooth fabric from the stash - note the date. I guess after seventeen years, it SHOULD be used!
With a little black and beige stripe for binding, we're happy..
The other one is made from 6 1/2 inch triangles I cut quite a while ago with the GO! Cutter. Some had been included in other projects, more added, more projects done, and there are still plenty left for another one at some point. I do like having things all cut and ready to sew.

This brown plaid fabric I used for the binding is also the backing for this one.
And third and finally, we have been having exceptionally nice weather here in Houston. The chickens and the flowers have decided it's Spring and are acting accordingly. We have not even had a freeze this Winter, nor have we had much rain. One thing is for sure - there is no way to predict what it will do next, so I intend to enjoy it while I can!

I hope you are finding plenty to enjoy in your world, too!

Hot Stuff

My friend Sandy gave me a yard of this hot pepper fabric quite a while back. After my friend Phyllis was here a couple of weeks ago helping me sew, I started putting back all the things I had moved to give her room (you know how THAT is!), and ran across lots of strips of leftover rows from another quilt. And I had an idea.
This is the result! This one will also go to our local airport USO for the soldiers to use while they are between flights from here to there. Maybe it will give them a little smile.
The back is this cozy green plaid flannel and the binding is a much-greener-than-it-looks stripe. Happy, happy quilt!
Here are a couple more projects edging toward the quilting machine.

It is an absolutely gorgeous day here. I wish I could bottle it up and send you some of it!

This squirrel is enjoying the day, too, along with some fresh banana leaves. I do not like squirrels. Sorry. I don't.

I hope you have some fun planned for your weekend. I'm spending mine with my honey, Mr. Muddling! Don't know exactly what we'll be doing, but we always have fun.

Hugs and kisses,
